What is Sculptra?
Sculptra therapy is a type of dermal filler, designed to help correct skin depression, degenerative aging skin and facial lipoatrophy. Sculptra is a poly-L-lactic acid implant in the form of sterile aprogenic suspension. Sculptra us unique as Sculptra causes a reaction in the skin which forms new collagen, and gradually replaces volume loss resulting in a very natural aesthetic.
What is poly-L-lactic acid?
Poly-L-lactic acid is a biocompatible, biodegradable, synthetic polymer from the alpha hydroxy-acid family.

How long does an appointment for Sculptra injections take?
The exact time depends on the area being treated, but generally injections for Sculptra takes half an hour to forty-five minutes to complete.
Are Sculptra injections painful?
Sculptra injections are very tolerable. The injections cause mild, very temporary discomfort, and feel similar to a slight pinching sensation. A “pushing and pulling” sensation with some pressure is typically felt. Sculptra is pre-mixed with lidocaine; However, A topical numbing agent can be applied prior to injections, to ease any discomfort. Ice is applied to the treated area to aid swelling and ease discomfort.
How is Sculptra administered?
Sculptra is injected with fine gauge needles into the discussed area.
How long does it take for Sculptra to work?
You may see immediate results for 24 hours after being injected with Sculptra; however, these results are temporary. Sculptra itself is a collagen stimulator, the product itself does not provide a filling action. Sculptra causes a reaction in the skin which forms new collagen, so results from Sculptra will be gradually seen over a few months.
How long does Sculptra last?
Results from Sculptra can last up to 2 years; However, individual results may vary. Multiple treatments of Sculptra may be required.
Is there any downtime after being treated with Sculptra?
There is no downtime required after being treated Sculptra, and you are not required to schedule any time off of work. However, exercise is not recommended for 24-hours after injections.
What Is the recovery process after Sculptra injections?
After your Sculptra injections, mild swelling, soreness, red bumps or bruising may appear after injections; However, any redness tends to dissipate shortly after treatment and makeup can be
gently applied. Bruising and swelling may last up to 48-72 hours after injections. You may experience tenderness at injection site for a few days after your treatment. For discomfort you may take Tylenol. Arnica creams can be topically applied to aid bruising, swelling and pain after treatment. IMPORTANT: You must massage each treated area, FIVE minutes, FIVE times each day, for FIVE days. Arnica gel may be used for massage to help reduce bruising, pain and swelling. Massage may be easiest when you are cleansing or moisturizing your face.
Are there any side effects or possible risks to being treated with Sculptra injections?
Like any medical procedure, Sculptra does have potential risk factors. During your consultation your provider will determine if Sculptra is the right treatment for you. If you have any concerns, please call your practitioner immediately.
Who is NOT a candidate for Sculpta injections?
Sculptra is not safe for those who are those with bleeding disorders or other health problems. Those who are pregnant or breastfeeding are not a candidate for Sculptra injections.
